If you want to have the internet on your TCL Roku TV but cannot find your remote, use the methods below to connect your TV to WiFi.

1. Roku App

The Roku app allows you to control your Roku devices and offers fun features that make streaming super easy. This app provides access to various streaming platforms. It also makes a remote unnecessary if you want to connect your TCL Roku TV to WiFi.

This method requires you to have two phones- you’ll use one to establish a hotspot, and the other will have the app. Another essential thing to note is that the hotspot’s password and name must match the password and name of the WiFi network in your TV’s memory.

The TV will get connected to the network automatically if it’s memorized hence going through settings won’t be necessary. In this case, you’ll just need to set up and enable the hotspot, and your TCL Roku TV will automatically connect to the WiFi connection.

Note

Roku app also comes in handy should you misplace your remote. by tapping the app’s microphone button and saying, “hey Roku, find my remote,” the compatible remote will automatically make a beeping sound. You can then trace your remote’s location by following the sound. After finding it, stop the sound by pressing a remote button.

  • Download the Roku app into your iOS or Android smartphone, then open it to access the available options
  • Tap Devices, select your Roku device, then choose Connect Now
  • Under the Discovered Roku device, tap Remote
  • Hit the OK or Home button
  • Access Settings, choose Network, set up connection, then Wireless
  • Locate and tap on your wireless connection
  • Put the WiFi password
  • Hit Connect

  • Turn on Allow Others To Join
  • Hit WiFi password, then change it
  • Tap Done

2. Browser Extension

Use Remoku, a web browser extension, to connect your TCL Roku TV to the internet if you don’t want to have the Roku app on your phone. The extension is in Microsoft Edge and Google, so just install it.

Once you have downloaded and installed the browser extension, follow these steps:

  • Connect your Roku player and computer to one WiFi network, then open your phone or computer browser
  • On the browser’s extension area, tap the Remoku icon to access the virtual remote that will help you navigate the menus of the Roku player
  • Select Settings, then Network
  • Choose Set Up Connection, then choose Wireless. This will prompt Roku to search for WiFi signals
  • Choose the network, then enter its password

Note

Remoku disconnects if you choose the wrong WiFi network. If that happens, you’ll need to connect to the new network to access the virtual remote once again.

3. Keyboard and Mouse

A mouse and keyboard are more practical, especially if you don’t want your phone to serve as a remote. A wireless and wired mouse and keyboard are effective, provided it’s compatible with your TCL Roku TV.

Follow these steps:

  • Connect the mouse and keyboard to your TV through the TV’s USB port. For convenience, use a wireless mouse and keyboard rather than wired. In addition, if your keyboard has built-in control for the mouse, using TCL Roku TV will be much easier.
  • Another advantage is that the mouse and keyboard make typing more efficient and easier. Therefore, logging into different streaming sites is more convenient.
  • Access the Network Settings using the keyboard. The process is similar to using a remote; you could even say it is easier.
  • Choose Wireless Networks, then scan to find available networks
  • Join the WiFi network, then put in the password if necessary

4. Ethernet Cable

An ethernet connection provides strong internet signals, so it can be an excellent choice when you cannot access your remote. For this method to work, you require an ethernet cable (a Cat8 or Cat6) that’s long enough to connect your TV to the router.

Here is what to do:

  • Connect the ethernet cable’s one end to your modem or router, then attach the other to the TV’s LAN port
  • Now that you’ve created an internet connection connect your smartphone to the same network through WiFi
  • With your phone and TCL Roku TV on one network, control the TV using the Roku app. If you’d rather use a wireless internet connection, connect your TV to WiFi using the app, then detach the ethernet cables once the connection is established.

Summary

You should be able to connect your TCL Roku TV to WiFi in the absence of a remote through the methods provided above. Therefore, misplacing your remote should not frustrate you too much or keep you from enjoying viewing your television. The Roku application is especially valuable in this circumstance and even in everyday TV use.
